This morning I was searching for one album and came across another by accident: ‘Katamari Fortissimo Damacy’, the soundtrack for the 2004 PlayStation 2 game Katamari Damacy. Listening to it led me to realize something which I call the Katamari Damacy Soundtrack Postulate. It reads as follows:
The level of genius in a song is a direct reflection of how much a person must struggle to forget the music.
A real life example is, obviously, Katamari Damacy. For example, all I have to write is ‘na naaaa na na na na…’ and some of you will immediately have that opening jingle stuck in your head. And you will be pissed off at me because it is impossible to stop thinking about that music once it starts. That soundtrack is audio cancer made from sunshine and rainbows.
At least now I have a good idea to give Jesse for the music on our game: “Make it so catchy that when people start humming it the other people around them become annoyed for being reminded of something so infectious.” Genius.
